Holiday Message from the President

Dear WFICC family,

As we near the end of the year, I want to extend my appreciation and recognition to all of you for your impactful work in each of your communities over the past twelve months. You are the reason we, the WFICC, exist. Your work, your leadership, and the exemplary delivery of care that our member societies promote worldwide is what makes us stronger.

Our mission, the delivery of critical care without discrimination for all humankind, is not only possible but closer to being a tangible reality each day. 2025 has been a year full of events, commitments, and projects. The peak of the year was the celebration of our 17th World Critical Care Congress in Vancouver, Canada, last September. The Congress marked the change of leadership and Council representation. Jorge Hidalgo, my predecessor and my friend, stepped down, leaving a lasting legacy of an unprecedented number of achievements, of projects completed, and the feeling for all that a new era had dawned for the WFICC. Thank you, Jorge, and thank you to all the Council members who spent countless hours working shoulder to shoulder with a common goal of delivering better critical care.

2026 will bring us many opportunities to continue that same work, to enhance our presence worldwide, and to impact our communities with the main resolve of improving the delivery of critical care. We will be gathering in every continent and getting closer to all the society members, with Presidential meetings already confirmed in LATAM (Panama – April), the Middle East and Northern Africa (Dubai – May), Europe (Madrid – June), Asia (Bali – July), and Central and South Africa (TBD). Our Council members are actively engaged and working on many projects, many of which will bring results to communities soon. We are sponsoring several strategic projects during this coming year, marking a record in sponsored grants and projects for the WFICC. We are planning to invest over $100,000 to support our communities. Our WFICC Ambassadors are relentlessly working in collaboration with partners, expanding our reach and securing additional sources of funding to invest in projects across our communities.

We measure our success by the lives we change in our communities. That success is only made possible by the compassion, support, and commitment to excellence of all our societies and their members. Together, we are stronger.

Let me finish by wishing you all Happy Holidays, and a peaceful and loving 2026 for all.

Best,

Javier Perez Fernandez
President
