Dr Jose Elizalde – expression of sympathy and condolence

The WFICC Executive Committee and Council were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former WFICC Council Member, Dr Jose Elizalde on September 9^th in Mexico City, Mexico. A true fighter, he lost his battle against cancer.

Jose Javier Elizalde Gonzalez was elected to the WFICC Council at the General Assembly in Melbourne, Australia on October 15^th, 2019. He represented the Colegio Mexicano de Medicina Critica A.C. (COMMEC) and served for four (4 years) before retiring from office at the 16^th World Congress in Istanbul, Turkey in 2023.

Dr Elizalde was Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM in Mexico City. He was the author of more than 100 publications in Critical Care & Pulmonary Medicine in Mexico and abroad and a member of 7 National and 9 International Medical Societies.

He will be remembered for his gentle manner, quiet but determined leadership and his loyal friendship. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and most especially by the critical care community in Mexico. On behalf of the WFICC and our global family of society members, we extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Jose Elizalde.
