Fathima Paruk

Fathima Paruk is Full Professor and Head of the Department of Critical Care at Steve Biko Academic Hospital at the University of Pretoria, South Africa (SA). She is the first female President of the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa and has been actively involved in critical care nationally and internationally for the last 2 decades. Dr Paruk has delivered more than 250 lectures as an invited as a speaker at national and international platforms including opening addresses, plenaries or lectures at WFICC World Congress in 2009 (Florence), 2013 (Durban) and 2015 (Seoul). Professor Paruk served as International Scientific Chair of the 11th World Congress held in Durban in 2013. Her publications span the domains of telehealth, critical care obstetrics, COVID-19, sepsis, antimicrobial dosing, medical ethics, HIV and post -ICU outcomes. In September 2025, Dr Paruk was elected to serve as Treasurer from 2025 to 2027 and will become a member of the Executive Committee.
