Alfredo Matos

After completing his residency in General Surgery,  Dr Alfredo Matos continued with a residency in Critical Care and Intensive Therapy.  He is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Panama, where he teaches Clinical Nutrition, General Surgery, and Propedeutics. He served as Director of the Diploma Program in Critical Care Medicine from 2000 to 2016. He has a strong interest in Clinical Nutrition and served as President of the Panamanian Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism from 2001 to 2013. Dr Matos was President of the Panamanian Society of Critical Care and Intensive Therapy from 2013 to 2020, Treasurer of the Pan-American and Iberian Federation of Critical Care Medicine and Intensive Therapy (FEPIMCTI) from 2016 to 2020, Vice President from 2020 to 2022, and currently serves as President of FEPIMCTI for the 2022–2025 term. Dr. Matos is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences on topics including Intensive Care, General Surgery, and Clinical Nutrition. He is also actively involved in the advisory agreement between FEPIMCTI and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on critical noncommunicable diseases, including sepsis and septic shock.
