Gene Sung, MD, MPH

Gene Sung, MD, MPH is past-president of the World Federation of Intensive and
Critical Care. He is a founding member and past-president of the International
Neurocritical Care Society and has had leadership positions at the American
Heart Association, National Stroke Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine
and American Academy of Neurology. He is the founder and past-director of the
Neurocritical Care and Stroke division at the University of Southern California
(USC) in Los Angeles, California. He has trained at the Universities of Minnesota
and Maryland and Johns Hopkins University (where he also had his first faculty
appointment and received a MPH in Epidemiology). His research interests are
improving neurocritical care and outcomes of stroke and traumatic brain injury. He
has led a global effort to standardize the determination of brain death and is
passionate about raising education and practice standards of critical care in the
world. His role as WFICC Ambassador includes ongoing projects with WHO/
ACAN and advisor to the President.
